With the day bringing few runs and allowing the members of THE HOUSE OF PAIN an unusual break they knew they were in for a rough night. Just after 1600 hours a SHOOTING was dispatched in the 1200 blk. of 18th Pl. N.E. bringing ENGINE Co. 10 and MEDIC 12 to find a single patient with multiple gun shot sounds to the face, chest, and arms. While the units were transporting this victim to the hospital another SHOOTING was transmitted in the Local Alarm area this time in the 1600 Blk. of E St. NE involving a SEVEN (7) year old victim. Interestingly enough Fox 5 News did a story on Violent Crime and the Metrpolitan Police Departments new efforts to catch criminals with technology just hours prior to the shooting on 18th Pl. NE where the story was filmed. The runs kept coming with 10 ENGINE and 13 TRUCK going from run to run and the pace was set for the rest of the night. Just prior to midnight a BOX ALARM was transmitted for a reported HOUSE ON FIRE in the 5100 blk. of A St. S.E. bringing 13 TRUCK 1st due and 10 ENGINE 2nd due. Units went on scene of a single story vacant house under renovation with FIRE SHOWING from SIDE D. 10 ENGINE pulled a 1.5" attack line and assisted units on the scene with extinguishment as most of the fire was contained to the exterior of the building. 13 TRUCK went to work opening up the structure and removing bars from the windows. 10 ENGINE was quickly returned to service while the Truck remained on scene to assist units with overhaul. Less than an hour after backing into quarters and a few more runs later another BOX ALARM was transmitted for a reported HOUSE ON FIRE in the 3800 blk. of South Dakota Ave. N.E. Truck Co. 15 went on the scene of a two story wood frame house with smoke showing from the second floor and a fire in the basement. 10 ENGINE 5th due on the BOX ALARM was the fourth arriving piece and laid a supply line from a block away and was assigned to Division II. THE DIME advanced a 150' attack line to the second floor and vented the same. While they were unable to locate any extension of fire there was allot of trapped heat on the second floor before it was vented melting everything on the walls. TRUCK Co. 13 responded on the WORKING FIRE DISPATCH and was placed in the RIT Group and assisted with ventilation as well. Before it was said and done for the tour the house racked up over 30 runs and had operated on two fires. On a side note if you have seen our REGULAR WAGON S-160 we would love to get it back as it has been in the shop for over 4 months and we have been through A LOT of reserves unable to handle the LIFE AT THE HOUSE OF PAIN.
