ABOUT THE HOUSE OF PAIN

The HOUSE OF PAIN is located at 1342 Florida Ave N.E. in the Trinidad section of the District of Columbia. The call box assigned to the house is Box 6229. The House Of Pain is composed of Engine Company 10 and Truck Company 13, both companies have been some of the busiest companies in the District of Columbia since their organization. Engine Company 10 was organized in the year of 1895 by Special Order of the Fire Chief and originally housed at 1341 Maryland Ave. N.E. before being later consolidated with Truck Company 13 at their quarters located on Florida Ave. N.E. Engine Company 10 has been the BUISIEST COMPANY IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA for many years as well as being the BUISIEST SINGLE PIECE ENGINE COMPANY IN THE UNITED STATES according to Firehouse Magazines National Run Survey. Engine Company 10 has lead the District of Columbia Fire Department in amount of hose laid, equipment used, and pump-time for many years. The members of the House Of Pain are highly motivated and extremely aggressive making it a highly sought after assignment, however, only a few get to live it. It is not the name of the companies but the members that make the "HOUSE OF PAIN FIRE DEPARTMENT".

EARLY MORNING BLAZE ON MINNESOTA AVE N.E.
Sunday, September 5, 2010
-
Minutes before 0500 hours as most companies were out on Medical Locals a BOX ALARM was transmitted for a reported HOUSE ON FIRE in the 4900 blk. of Minnesota Ave. N.E. So many units were tied up at the time of dispatch that Engine Co. 26 was dispatched first due on the alarm. As units came available the running assignments were changed bringing Engine Co. 27 First Due as they located a two story single family wood frame detached house with FIRE SHOWING from the first and second floor with extension to the Bravo 1 and Delta 1 exposures. 13 TRUCK responded Second Due while THE DIME came on the Working Fire Dispatch (however arrived extremely early into the operation). The HOUSE OF PAIN FIRE DEPARTMENT was placed in the Delta 1 exposure and located fire throughout extinguishing all of it as the truck opened up. The fire was brought under control in the original fire building after the incident had escalated into a Second Alarm. With this fire ENGINE Co. 10 has racked up more than three (3) hrs. of Pump Time in less than 36 hours while laying and using over 1000' of 3" and over 1000' of 1.5" hose. Also this was well over the 100th RUN OF THE MONTH. The HOUSE OF PAIN is still in full swing and the companies will be reunited soon.

Another 4th of July has come and gone and it was definitely an eventful one finishing up with a TWO ALARM fire for THE DIME.  With the runs steadily flowing by 21:00 hrs the stage was set for a long night for all members of the DCFD.  For a period of over four hours more than 60 incidents were open at a time in District - this translates into a lot of runs...

At 05:00 hrs. a BOX ALARM was transmitted for a reported HOUSE ON FIRE in the Unit blk. of Rhode Island Ave. N.W.  ENGINE Co. 10 was Third Due and assumed the same.  A fire had started and extended to two (2) adjacent exposures via the roof and the Second Alarm was requested.  THE DIME advanced the 400' of 1.5" and extinguished all fire in the original fire building before the assignment was scaled  back.
