ABOUT THE HOUSE OF PAIN

The HOUSE OF PAIN is located at 1342 Florida Ave N.E. in the Trinidad section of the District of Columbia. The call box assigned to the house is Box 6229. The House Of Pain is composed of Engine Company 10 and Truck Company 13, both companies have been some of the busiest companies in the District of Columbia since their organization. Engine Company 10 was organized in the year of 1895 by Special Order of the Fire Chief and originally housed at 1341 Maryland Ave. N.E. before being later consolidated with Truck Company 13 at their quarters located on Florida Ave. N.E. Engine Company 10 has been the BUISIEST COMPANY IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA for many years as well as being the BUISIEST SINGLE PIECE ENGINE COMPANY IN THE UNITED STATES according to Firehouse Magazines National Run Survey. Engine Company 10 has lead the District of Columbia Fire Department in amount of hose laid, equipment used, and pump-time for many years. The members of the House Of Pain are highly motivated and extremely aggressive making it a highly sought after assignment, however, only a few get to live it. It is not the name of the companies but the members that make the "HOUSE OF PAIN FIRE DEPARTMENT".

ANOTHER SNOW STORM ANOTHER FIRE IN TRINIDAD
Saturday, January 30, 2010
-
With snow flakes falling and the conditions deteriorating the stage was set for a mid morning BOX ALARM for reported HOUSE ON FIRE in the 1100 blk. of Owen Pl. N.E. ENGINE Co. 10 arrived on location to find a two story, ordinary, middle of the row, apartment building with SMOKE SHOWING from the second floor of Side Alpha and FIRE SHOWING from Side Charlie. THE DIME quickly located a fire in the rear of an upstairs apartment and had it knocked down yet again before most of the units were on the scene. Due to TRUCK Co. 13 being out of position they were not alerted on the alarm until the Working Fire Dispatch. With the fire quickly knocked down and the extension under control the assignment was scaled back and units were returned. This was the second fire in ENGINE Co. 10s Local Alarm area in less than 24 hours. Again keeping pace with the name THE HOUSE OF PAIN.

EVEN THE GALLY CANNOT KEEP UP WITH THE HOUSE OF PAIN
Thursday, January 28, 2010
-
Repairs are finally complete at "THE GALLY" and we are back in business. The facility has had a hard time keeping up with THE DIME as we wait for the HOUSE OF PAIN renovations to be completed. Recently the floor has been repaired after collapsing due to the weight of the wagon and we now have a fully functional sink for washing dishes; the little things mean the most. But even with the hardships the Company continues to overcome and respond on alarms because they don't slow down! A special thanks to all the contractors and Gallaudet University for their continuing support in these unusual times.

WINTER STORM BRINGS TWO FIRES FOR THE HOUSE OF PAIN IN LESS THAN 12 HOURS
Saturday, December 19, 2009
-
Late Friday December 18th the snow began to fall and didn't stop until Sunday December 20th. During that time the HOUSE PAIN racked up allot of runs, which is not unusual however, the snow definitely did not slow them down. On Saturday afternoon a BOX ALARM was struck for a report of SMOKE IN THE BUILDING in the 1200 blk. of Simms Pl. N.E. bringing ENGINE Co. 10 FIRST DUE and TRUCK Co. 13 SECONDS DUE. THE DIME went on the scene with SMOKE SHOWING from the second floor locating a fire in the kitchen of an apartment that had extended to the cockloft. THE DIME extinguished the same while laying and using 150' of 1.5" and 3" and racked up 1 hour of PT. TRUCK Co. 13 went to work opening up and assisting with containing the fire and accessing it. Less than 12 hours later a BOX ALARM was struck for a reported HOUSE ON FIRE in the 600 blk. of A St. N.E. bringing TRUCK Co. 13 SECOND DUE and ENGINE Co. 10 FIFTH DUE. Engine Co. 18 arrived on location to find a two story, ordinary, single family with SMOKE SHOWING from SIDE A. TRUCK Co. 13 arrived shortly there after and forced entry to SIDE C and assisted with a fire that had traveled from the besement to the cockloft and operated on all floors, opening up and laddering the building. THE DIME laid out and reported SIDE A - orginially placed in the RIT GROUP but later redeployed to DIVISION I to assist units with opening up and extinguishing fire that had extended through the first floor. After racking up there attack line and being placed in service 10 ENGINE was once again requested to RUN A LINE IN A HURRY to the exposure building as it had been disocvered that the fire may have extended to the same. In the end 10 ENGINE had laid and used 500' of 1.5" and 650' of 3" while racking up 2 hours of Pump Time and used four SCBAs. The storm ended early SUNDAY MORNING but the runs kept coming and THE HOUSE OF PAIN keeps the pace.
